Modified trucks

I have read a couple news articles about Kevin Hart's cuda and that lawsuits are being prepared against him and the builder of the car because it doesn't meet current safety standards. If the builder loses on this what will it do to the modified car/truck market? It seems like it could put companies like legacy or gas monkey out of business, I know gas monkey did a hell cat scout. Really I figured if you drive an older vehicle you understand it isn't necessarily as safe as something new? This is somewhat alarming to me although I never plan to sell anything I have modified.
