I went through this, too. I found an old panel truck with a spare tire and wheel that fits a trailer that I have. The size is marked 8.00-15. When I compared it to my 31-10.50 tire on my truck, the 8/15 was almost two inches taller!
With 15 being rim size, and 8 being width of the tire, I still don't know how they come up with the actual height of the tire.
I guess it's just experience that tells you that an 8/15 is almost 33" tall. now, do we assume that a 7/15 is 31" tall?
