White oak turns a silver gray, if no finish applied. On my '52 with a white oak bed, I used varnish on it and it has retained its original color after 9 years. Very nice with SS bed strips.
It is very rot resistant- more so than red oak.
For the W500 I stained the white oak black, then varnish over it. Since it's a show truck I wanted it to be more "factory" looking.
