Front of my rad split again. I pulled the decorative cap off the top of my rad cap and find it is a 16lb unit. The rad is a recored stock WC53 rad. Engine is a 4bt. Only time the fan turns on is running long steep grades or crawling in the bush.
I am running 50/50 orange mix which should make the boiling point 232 degrees.
The 7 lb cap should add about 20 more degrees for a boiling point of 250 degrees.
With the 16lb cap the boiling point would have been around 265 - 270 degrees.
So what is a decent cap pressure to run on a recored stock radiator?
Something is causing these splits- I will pressure test the cap at some point and see if it really does open at 16lbs........too busy packing right now.
thanks
Bruce
yes i know there are a bunch of flat heads out there but there are v8s and 4bts tucked away in a few trucks as well. I think I now know why the aluminum rads are popular.
