I'm with you on this Junior, have re-used older U bolts many times without problems.
Interesting that Dayton states that "A previously torqued U-bolt will suffer from distorted threads from the engagement of the deep nut". I think it would be a lot more likely to distort the threads if you used a normal nut, rather than a deep nut on used U-bolts.
