Cleaned the cosmoline/grease off the pinion and shaft, starter works like a champ every time now!

What I did was, after cleaning, I turned the pinion fully extended until it clicked in that position, then mounted it on the truck.

I guess I got fooled by the newness of the cosmoline. Usually when I deal with it, it's so oxidized that it's like an impenetrable wax.
