That's about the only real advantage that I see to it. It's not going to be as efficient in a low compression engine.

However, Dave's '49 got spark knock running up WV hills on low octane. High octane made it quiet right down. That was right before it blew a head gasket. I suspect that it had some carbon deposits and timing was possibly advanced a bit to far.
