I've been going bananas with both my trucks with gas leaking out from the sender fittings. I figured the gas was coming up through the threads and needed a sealant to seal the threads up.
The guy at the parts house handed me a tube of Permitex Form-a-gasket, with the promise that this was the ticket. Ok. I'll give it a whirl. When I tried it on the Carryall, it didn't seem to work. I figured I did something wrong and I'd worry about it later.
Today I'm using the stuff for re-assembling the thermostat housing and water pump fitting. Once everything was complete, being a slob, I had some on the wrenches & my hands. Cleaning the sticky stuff off was posing a challenge. Until I dunked my hands in the gasoline and it was GONE right now POOF! The stuff dissolves in gasoline faster n', well.. Something really fast!
Obviously this is why my gas tank fixes are not working. Put it all together and the gas just washes it back out.
So.. What are people using to seal gaskets that doesn't dissolve in gasoline?
And I know silicon seal won't work. Because, we used to use gasoline for removing the jet pumps when working on jet boats. (Sealed in with Silicon.)
