Its not a pipe connection. Its a little plate held down with screws to the top of the tank with a cork gasket. And, to make things even more confusing, its inset into the tank a bit so you only see the inset filling and can't see where the leak actually is.

I'll try the other gasket stuff listed above. That sunds like it may be the ticket.
