Is it the fender shape imprint or seat bolt holes on the sides?

I thought the early WC and VC sides had the same rings on the sides. I'm not sure there is much special about the VC-3/5 sides vs the WC-1/3 sides. Other than the fender bolt holes anyway. Does anyone have any experience with the differences other than the rear fender bolt holes?
