A GM style alternator is pretty easy to hook up, and there are a lot of them out there. I have one on my M37 (with the Cummins 4BT...).
The big wire goes to your starter/battery positive, one of the little ones (of the spade tangs) goes to a keyed power source. The other little wire can be used to power an alternator, or to fire the charging light.
