Chemically Cleaning Brass

I'm trying to resurrect the dimmer control on a PW light switch. The coiled wire that dims the instrument lights is in excellent condition, but the brass tab that sends power to the coil has corroded where it attaches to the coil and has lost its continuity. Is there anything that I can put on the brass to remove this corrosion? The coil is really fragile, so I dare not move it around too much.
