But the most common cuase of flooding over is that somebody cut the steel line to add a filter- they cut the line with hack saw or dikes, leaving a raw edge. That raw edge shreds the inside of the rubber hose used to couple the filter to the steel line, and shreds of rubber get between inlet needle and seat on the inlet valve.
And of the amateur plumber did the filter hack before the pump, then the pump can go bad for the same reason.
