YUP it is possible and works well. in fact it isn't a conversion but an addition.
from what i have read, it is perfect for diesel all the buses in SLC run on CNG.
you actually run both diesel and CNG at the same time, the DF ignites the CNG and the CNG does most of the work, so your truck uses very little DF. from what i can tell my truck currently runs about 12-14 mpg and effectively ill get 30 mpg, on the DF while burning the CNG, so ill have to pay for the cng as well but that is only $1.70 right now. so my total cost per mile goes WAY down.
other benefits are 25% power gain and better low end torque and it burns cleaner than just DF so i won't be smoking anybody out, and i won't have to clean my trailer all the time.
I am still working through the numbers and looking for some one who has run this to determine how accurate the info really is.
