The input shaft is just long enough as is. If you added an adapter plate between the trans and bellhousing, then the input shaft would not contact the pilot bushing.

Here's a crazy idea I had:
1. bolt a plate (or a set of ears)to the back of the bellhousing using the the top two bolt holes.

2. Weld the plate to those bolts.

3. Cut/grind away part of the bolt heads and any of the plate so that the transmission can fit between the bolts and directly contact the bellhousing.

This would leave "ears" permanently attached to the bellhousing on either side of the transmission. You could use those ears to clamp to the top two ears on the transmission.

If you wanted two bolts on the bottom, they would have to go through the front of the transmission case.

I deduced this was possible, but decided not to do it myslef.
