The Forest Service did that with fire lookouts, when they were really into the thick of installing them all over in the '30s and '40s. They had a few standardized "cab" designs (L-4 being the most common live-in style) and had them made as pre-cut kits. All the parts were small enough to be packaged in tidy bundles and packed on mules anywhere. They were even stamped with numbers indicating what went where. A trail crew with no special carpentry expertise could lay the kit out on the ground, open up the instructions, and put it together.
