The next generation Cummins is supposed to be so quiet that you can't hear it running from 10-15 feet away. The new Detroit V-8 diesel that Dodge is working on is supposed to be even quieter. But any explosion at 18 to 17:1 compression is not going to be as quiet as a smogger (8:1) gasoline engine.
