Went home this weekend, and got to look at the '69 W500 I am thinking of purchasing. It appears that it does NOT have a 2-speed rear, just a decal on the dash for it that was carefully repainted around. Has a 175" wheelbase, 8.25X20 tires, what looks like 2 sets of overload springs on the back (no wonder it could hold the drill deck), 2 bbl 318 LA engine, 5 speed, 2-speed t-case. Gas tank behind the seat was removed, and a tank was put in place of the right running board, solid fenders hood and grille, rust in bottom of right door, and at seams in inside roof of cab.
Now for the questions: The hood has one hinge bolt ripped out, such that the right hood hinge is no longer attached to the hood; would this be easy to repair or is the hood the same as other trucks from that year? For that mater is any of the sheetmetal the same as anything else? The left door doesn't open; what else shares the door latch mechanism (the door was swapped out at some time; looks like the original color was red, but the L door is muni orange). There is an air pressure gauge on the dash, but I see no air compressor, and the brakes are hydraulic; any ideas? Is there an easy upgrade from the single master cylinder to a dual MC? The headliner is missing, is this hard to come by or fabricate? The tranny has long forward throws to the left and right, with four short (two forward, two back) throws in the center; can any of you gurus tell me what this tranny is (or isn't?) What should I look for to verify exactly what tranny it is (without removing it from the truck)?
I’m sure I’ll find more questions to pick your collective brains with later; thanks for any help you can provide.
