My '50-51 is also rated at 87hp, 8700 gvw...but it seems to have the 5.8? gears, 9.0-16 tires, and the two sets of rear springs are more meaty than any I've seen on any other 3/4 ton. Also has rear shocks. If its a 3/4 ton, I reckon that would be a VERY conservative figure....
I toted 3000 pounds of scrap 1000 miles in a half ton '68 GMC a couple years ago. ..and it made the trip fine. Actually drove better with the load.
I'd think my Power Wagon should be good for a couple tons if I was careful and didn't go up steep hills.... Of course, I don't plan on trying it, but who's to say where I might be someday.....
