that permits the spare wheel and tire to mount flush against the bed when tight on the cast mount arm. The very early 1946 WDX PW's had a small section (perhaps 3" to 4" in length) of the round tube ahead of the spare tire at the right front top corner of the bed, but that feature was quickly omitted as an unnecessary and expensive detail.
