I own a 1941 1/2 ton military, wc12. I restored this truck using many pieces from other 1/2 tons, including open cab models.
Now, when I accuired my rig, it had the closed cab, but its not the military version. It had the rectangular guages, window crank and a host of
other differences which makes it a civilian cab.
However, when inspecting, and later disassembling the truck, I found olive drab paint
as the first layer under some of the components as well as in the inside of the glove box.
I have to assume that this truck came from the factory using a civilian cab from the assembly line. Maybe they ran out of Military cabs during
production? Anyway, I've also seen the civilian type cab on two other un-restored trucks, and the cabs seem like they were there from the start.
Also, under the hood was all of the suppressed
wiring and filters. Who would go thru the trouble
to re-install all this crap onto a swapped cab?
( There was the olive drab paint under all this as well)
I have to believe it was there from the factory
using this civilian style cab.
So, yes you can use a civy cab on the military chassis. And unless someone can prove
this all wrong, I would say that using the proper
civilian cab can be used and should pass as a
proper cab on a restored vehicle.
Anyone else out there have similar experience
with this?
