If, as you say “it’s been sitting for a couple of years”, The cylinder walls may be less than properly lubricated at start-up. It may be wise to pull the spark plugs and pour some motor oil or MMO on top of the cylinders. Not much, but enough to bathe the top of the cylinder and the cylinder walls. Yes, it will smoke after startup.
