After resting on jack stands for a couple of years and a 'new' professionally rebuild carb from Daytona Motor Parts),I plan on starting up my B4 later this Spring. I decided to remove the electric fan set up I had and replace the original 4 blade belt driven fan. Since I have a longer block 251 engine in the truck, I had to do the modification to the radiator ( rotate the radiator top tank 180 degrees, and other tweeks and mount the radiator to the front of the radiator bracket to allow for clearance for the fan blades and core). I am using the 251 water pump since it is recessed closer to the block than the 230 water pump. With this set up I do not need to use the grille extensions found on the later ffpws. Admittedly the fan is very close to the core (<1" clearance). but it spins without contact. The reason for the change back to this arrangement over the electric fan and 230 water pump is that I had awful vapor lock problems when I used the Flex-a-lite- electric fan. The engine compartment always seemed too hot and that fan did not draw in enough cool air. Fuel boiled and vapor locked even when I moved the fuel line as far away as i could from the block. I am hoping that the bigger belt driven fan cools better. Also I removed the electric fuel pump and am using a new mechanical pump.
Qestions for all: Any specific approach I should use to wake the truck. Of course there is no fuel in the system. Should I fill the glass bowl in the fuel pump with gas, and some in the float bowl, charge battery, changed out points and condenser, blow out fuel lines etc.
Thanks all.
