Converting MU winch to hydraulic

Hi all,

I have another general question about converting a PTO winch to hydraulic.

When the drive input of the winch is hooked to a hydraulic motor do the hydraulics control the whole thing? Meaning - is the clutch/brake mechanism on the winch removed or somehow held in the engaged state?

So the feed, hold or pull state of the winch would be controlled entirely by the hydraulic motor?
