Trust me Willy. Air suckeths through restriction far differently than it blows through the same restriction.
That's why fans suck air through evaporators on small refrigeration systems and most vehicle radiators.
Whip out your calculator and cipher up how many cubic feet of free air need to go in that compressor to fill your tank to 100psi, the number is huge. Volume is similar to what the engine swallows.
Unless you're operating in an abrasive laden atmosphere minimizing restriction increases efficiency. How would you feel about a 13 foot high intake stack?
