I have heard storys of people having electrical troubles with the 70's trucks. I myself had problems with the blower fan switch burning out and then the end of the fuse that controls the heater fan getting hot and burning out but not blowing. Also had the wiper motor work and not work. I mounted a grounding block and ran ground wires to various locat1ons under the hood and since then I have not had a fuse get hot and burn. The wipers motor works and the lights and stuff just seem to be a little more perky.
Lately on my 74 D200 I have a mysterious thing going on.It just shuts itself off. Originally thought to be a failing fuel pump I have had it do it to me today a few times and the carb always pumps fuel right away.
The question is does the electronic ignition module rely on a chassis ground from being screwed into the side of the firewall? I am wondering now if maybe this item is either failing or loosing its chassis ground and causing a itermintant problem.
One thing I have noticed with the timing light is when it shuts itself off and I turn the key the light doesnt flash right away indiccating to me that I dont have spark and then after a few seconds it flashs and the 440 starts up. ANy ideas here?
