off topic 2010 dodge exhaust

my stock exhaust pipe broke off at the tail end of the muffler. I want to go stainless. I see systems that go from the filter back with and without a muffler my muffler seems suspect . I figure I may go without the muffler but am seeking guidance from the diesel guys here.
