The 1967 WM300 had a really bad shudder after installing the 318 with Heli-tool kit due to the really steep angle of the intermediate shaft between the NP435 transmission and transfer case. The transmission output and transfer case input were within 3 degrees of each other, but truck would shudder violently when starting from a stop. Lessened at speed. Kept getting worse to the point where it sounded like it was ready to break a u-joint.
Finally got around to working on it today. Dropped the rear of the engine a tad by installing thinner rubber insulators than the insulators that come with the kit. Took Dave Cirillo's advice and dropped the transfer case and shimmed the rear with three large washers per side to point the front of the case up towards the transmission. Keith and I took the truck out for a spin with no more shudder!
Hope to install a one-wire alternator in time for the WV road rally.
