Jerry, powder coat is the best primer on the planet. You can wash the surface with xylene & apply sealer & paint it if one wants to do a cab. My plan with that truck changed many times but if I had it here still, the cab would come off, be blasted & powder coated, then I'd seam seal anywhere that needed it scuff it & spray the cab the same white outside.
You can powdercoat a cab up here inside & out for $500 or less...just that any areas needing to be body worked need to either be perfect or be filled & re sprayed after coating.
Don't get me wrong...a paint finish is visually better than most powdercoat but proper powdercoat is at least as good as a factory Dodge enamel job.
