Hi Jerry,
I've done lots of experimenting with it. That W300 will be a great test example because every white panel on it is powdercoat, including the wheels, rear fenders etc & it gets used & driven.
As you know...our Vancouver climate may not be like New York but it's pretty darn wet & lots of that nasty road chemical used to melt ice.
The powdercoat on that truck is 2 years old now & the pictures on his CL ad are new recent pics.
If I didn't trust it...I wouldn't use it.
Now all this said...there are as good a quality powdercoat shops in Los Angeles, Seattle, etc but I have no idea how good the shops are in the smaller areas. One thing I can tell you, despite what has been reported...I too bought a buckstop bumper & went & picked mine up at the factory in OR. They had a fresh load of bumpers about to go out for powdercoat & they were shiny new metal. I specifically asked the guy if they blast them & he said, no, they're chemically dipped in a solution before PC.
They may have changed that process but that was in 2005 & mine looked & lasted like a Chinese lawn chair.
When powder coating, be sure the shop is priming your parts first.
I've had bad results powder coating once before but never from the shop I use now.
