I'm not sure about the AC compressor, but I have seen decent air driven venturi vacuum pumps pretty cheap. A refrigeration supply place should be able to help you out. If you can’t find one, you can build it yourself. They are basically a ‘tee’ that you blow air through and it pulls a vacuum on the perpendicular tube. E-mail me if you want better instructions. You can also do a web search on either ejector vacuum pumps OR venturi vacuum pumps.
