If you have the transmission out of the truck, you can remove the top cover and look down inside. Use a little dab of grease on the gear teeth and turn the pto shaft both ways and you will get a good idea of how the gears are meshing together. Then you can adjust the number of gaskets needed. This was how I did mine last winter. Robert
