Two ways
1. 2 degrees ATDC or
2. By octane. If you use a specific gas all the time, go out on the road and time the engine by advancing the distributor until you get a couple of pings in fourth at 15 mph when pressing the gas pedal to the floor. Now your timed for octane, a more effective method.
