Shear pin question

I know this subject has been discussed before but I can't seem to remember what the outcome was.

I just sheared the brass pin in my Braden 10,000 lb winch (on the W500).

I picked up a stainless clevis pin from Sears and think I might give it a try. I am thinking that the shear strength of stainless is less than a graded bolt. Maybe I'm wrong.

Any opinions?
