It sounds like a spark problem. If it is a breaker point type distributor the symptom would be reflective of a bad condenser. If it is an electronic ignition distributor then you may need to change the brain and the pick up inside the dist.. Now that you have poured gas down the carb you may need to change the spark plugs due to fowling. When you figure out what was wrong please post it on the forum as a follow up.
