Or was it originally soldered? If so, it is likely the seam is still tinned and would be easy to seal. Make sure you use flux.
If soldering fails, you can always try the other methods later. Trying to solder over a failed patch job is not so easy.
If the copper is clean, it will solder easily. It may be worth it to open the seam to clean it before soldering. In the end, it may be better to patch the seam with a copper patch.
It may not be absolutely necessary to get the solder to flow into the joint. Cleaning up the surface and building up solder on the outside may work.
