David---I was in the automatic transmission rebuilding profession for many years, and have built many of these transmissions. I have a 70 model 440 in a 77 P. W. When I rebuilt my transmission, I built it to HEMI specks. This is a complicated task for the average mechanic so I would suggest the very least that you do is to install a premium SHIFT-KIT and modify the case to accomidate the bolt in rear sprag. Most experienced mechanics will know the modifications. With this transmission when you are in a dead pull, you should ALWAYS put the trans. in manual low to protect this sprag modified or not. In MY opinion, this is the only weak point of this trans. Good Luck----GILES
