Hi ya, Arthur!
I just had the opportunity to shoot a precision bolt rifle match at our local gun club. One of the competitors was using a model 70 heavy varminter in .270 win that he has owned since the mid 70's. The rifle and the shooter both performed very well through a very challenging course of fire on stationary and moving targets at ranges from 150 to 320 meters. He was using an early Leupold Mark 4 scope and a Harris bipod. That setup competed very well against rifles and optics costing much more and chambered in more suitable calibrers for the activity. What will you be using the rifle for? I know that rifles have been made here in the U.S., Japan and that they are now being built by FN, I believe in their South Carolina facility.
