HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPOKANE WA
141 PM PST MON FEB 2 2015
...A SERIES OF WARM WET PACIFIC STORM SYSTEMS WILL ARRIVE
THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND...BRINGING SEVERAL ROUNDS OF
RAINFALL AS WELL AS WARMER TEMPERATURES AND RISING SNOW LEVELS.
SIGNIFICANT RISES ARE EXPECTED ON AREA RIVERS AND STREAMS AND
THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR LOCALIZED STORMWATER FLOODING IN LOW
LYING AND URBAN AREAS...
RIVERS AND STREAMS IN EASTERN WASHINGTON AND NORTHERN IDAHO WILL
SEE RISES BEGINNING THURSDAY AS THE FIRST OF SEVERAL ROUNDS OF
RAIN MOVES INTO THE REGION. SNOW LEVELS WILL BE ON THE RISE AS THE
STORMS WILL ALSO BRING WARMER TEMPERATURES AND WINDS. AREAS THAT
WILL LIKELY SEE THE GREATEST RAINFALL INCLUDE THE IDAHO PANHANDLE
AND FAR EASTERN WASHINGTON. THIS EVENT WILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT
RAIN SHADOW IN THE EAST SLOPES OF THE CASCADES...ALTHOUGH RAINFALL
AND SNOWMELT NEAR THE CREST WILL RESULT IN RISES ON RIVERS AND
STREAMS IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
RUNOFF FROM SNOWMELT AND RAIN COULD ALSO CAUSE LOCALIZED FLOODING
IN LOW LYING AND URBAN AREAS WHERE THERE IS POOR DRAINAGE OR WHERE
STORM DRAINS AND CULVERTS ARE PLUGGED WITH SNOW AND ICE.
THIS IS AN EVOLVING SITUATION AND CONFIDENCE IN RAINFALL AMOUNTS
AND RIVER LEVELS THROUGH THE WEEKEND ARE LOW AT THIS TIME SO THOSE
ALONG RIVERS AND STREAMS OR IN IMPACTED AREAS SHOULD BE AWARE OF
FUTURE OUTLOOKS...WATCHES...OR WARNINGS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE.
