went by the machinist today to discuss metals and called the stock distributor and talked to the head engineer and he said when you temper 4340 and 300m the temper goes to deep and therefore makes the shaft brittle maybe not as brittle as the stock shaft but more brittle than the 7210m which does not temper to deep and leaves the flexible core----all this according to him tho
when i was at the shop we put the stock drive cup on the stock axle to see how far it went in and therefore calculate how long the double splined shaft needs to be
when we had it in used a hacksaw blade to mark the depth on the shaft and the machinist made the comment that it was not very hard
