I have seen landcruisers, tacomas, jeeps, blazers and broncos all break axles out in the mountains. I have only broke 1 short axle on a 49 I had. was on pavement. probably the most worn out high mileage truck I ever owned. started life as a Seattle City light truck. I would say its not common for the stock ones to break on these trucks. not any more common than any comparable axle size. been on this forum since 04 and only seen one broken centered rear and I never broke any centered axles
