I went up the mast on a sail boat I had in a bosun's chair. While I was working, a loop of the line for the bosun's chair became wrapped around something on deck. I couldn't get down and was stuck about 40' feet in the air. I considered climbing down the mast, but figured I would probably slip. After about a half hour, someone came by and freed the line.
I wouldn't try sliding down a rope from 60 feet. Unless the rope was an unusually large diameter and you had practiced, there would be a good chance of falling. Climbers have some device that will lower them. But, the best bet is just to take a cell phone with you.
I did things when I was younger to save money that I would never do now.
