I will look at my MU2 and see how the knob comes off. I know I reconstructed that part at one time and put it together.
The fact is you're lucky to even have a shifter fork on an MU2. It's a fragile cast-iron piece and most have been broken and tossed into the bushes in disgust over the years, after which the old logger or farmer just used a hammer to bang the clutch in or out of engagement.
