I guess I didn't clarify my goal sufficiently when I asked this question.
My purpose for the disconnect switch is to cut poser to the entire system, for several reasons. It has nothing to do with a jammed starter, something I have never experienced. And I can't imagine why I would be turning the switch off while using the starter.
I want to put the disconnect switch in the positive side. The positive battery cable goes directly to the starter, so the switch would interrupt the flow between the battery and the starter. I expected this to be a reason to assure the switch could handle the maximum load, which would obviously be when the starter is engaged.
