So if the faces actually touch, then there should probably be at least a few thousands clearance between the outer face of the shoulder on the lug/stud and the bevel on the outer rim? It sounds like this would be bad, especially if the rims are old and the bevels are worn a few thousands deep from years of use. It would be impossible to get the outer dual perfectly concentric with the inner dual as the clearance between the lug/stud and outer dual bevel would prevent precise locating.
