I cut pieces of rubber bed mat on my floors. The best part of this approach is that it is not permanent. The second best part is that it won't hold moisture. Bed mats have all those little bumps that hold the matt off the floor to let water drain away. That's why I use them on top of my floor and under any carpet or matt in my newer vehicles. I use bed mat material instead of or at least under the jute carpet backing. In a wet state like Missouri, you are eventually going to get water in the floor boards if you drive a truck. At least this way, I don't have a soaked sponge of water right on top of my most vulnerable sheet metal.
I'm a believer in the effectiveness of stick-on sound deadening material like Dynamat or B Quiet, but the permanence and appearance of that stuff would prevent me from putting it on any vintage truck that I truly loved.
I don't use anything in my '42. That truck is loud. It is always going to be loud. I accept her exactly how she is.
