So, what are the major downsides, aside from corrosion, to using mild steel for building a diesel fuel tank for my Carryall with the Cummins conversion? I was planning on bead rolling it in a few spots to make it more rigid and then TIG welding the whole thing. Stainless is a lot of money, and Aluminum brings the issues with fatigue cracking and stuff.
I would have the tank dropped at a local marine shop that does tank sealing and then the outside sealed up and painted as well. I'd be the one building the tank and my mild steel welding is pretty good, stainless I am getting there and my AL... pretty bad at the moment.
