I'm rebuilding the 230 cid engine in my '49 flatfender PW. I plan on having the engine completely balanced, and I was told recently that I should have the crankshaft balanced together with the flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disk and front hub/pulley.
However, my machinist says this crankshaft is an internally balanced type, and can be balanced separately from the other components I mentioned above.
Who is correct?
I have a NOS pressure plate, and the NOS clutch disk arrives in a few days, but I'm thinking of buying an aftermarket vibration damper, for added crankshaft durability. This may require an adapter to be made to fit my cranshaft. If I need to balance the entire assembly together, then I will wait until I have the adapter made, so it and the damper can be balanced along with the crank, flywheel, clutch disk, etc.
Thanks for the input,
Matt
