The WWII bread loave sized ones have thumb wheels on each coil to adjust the points. Newer ones need to get bent.
The three coils are for volts, cut-out speed, and umm amps? Two-coil models are volts and cut out. Cut-out is for when it's going so slow the filed would use more than the out-put, so it shuts off the field. But I don't know which is which. 8v is not too far out of the ball park. It ought to adjust.
