When the FFPW's power train was developed in 1942 it was for combat on unpaved or no road conditions and the gearing was chosen for the 230 six. Unfortunately so were the brakes.
The FFPW was introduced as a farm and utility fwd vehicle.
In 1946 car and pickup speed limits were a lot lower, making the FFPW road speed not a tremendous handicap as it is today.
Today's use of our treasured toy is mostly on paved roads with the occasional use off road. The 4.89 gearing is a great idea for most of what the FFPW is being used for now days. In the future I'll be installing a set too.
